Living with Constant Tension
Do you ever feel like there’s a constant pull between what you are doing and what you should be doing? If so, you're not alone.
“As for me, since I am poor and needy,
let the Lord keep me in his thoughts.
You are my helper and my savior.
O my God, do not delay.”
Psalm 40:17, NLTse
We live in constant tension.
We know we’re “poor and needy,” as the Psalmist proclaims at the end of Psalm 40.
God reminds us to be strong and courageous, as he told Joshua multiple times in Deuteronomy 31.
John Rivers, CEO of 4 Rivers Smokehouse, shared with me,
“Faith is not the provision of insight and future and control; faith is being able to walk in the absence of insight, knowledge of the future, and control. People confuse the difference between the two. When you get that prompt in your heart, that’s when faith comes in to discern, ‘Okay, is this truly what God is stirring me to do?’ I always contend that it’s one thing to pray to ask God what He wants you to be doing. It’s another thing when He tells you what it is. You must have the courage to do it.”
Do you ever feel like there’s a constant pull between what you are doing and what you should be doing? If so. you're not alone.
Are we poor and needy or strong and courageous?
Not either/or. We’re both/and.
We can be ‘poor and needy’ and ‘strong and courageous’ in Christ when we depend on Him.
That spiritual wisdom and insight should set you free to be a bold entrepreneur or confident business leader because you can depend on God through Christ.
Lord, keep me in your thoughts today. Amen.
