When you love what you do, being called by God to serve in the marketplace is exhilarating. It’s a blessing and privilege to use the gifts you’re given to serve people, create value, and make a difference in the world.
That privilege comes with an obligation to be a faithful and responsible steward of your time, talent, treasure, and other people’s trust. Time is precious and irreplaceable. Your particular combination of talent and skills is unique to you — but it doesn’t mean you’re the only one who can do what you do — you are the only person who does what you do with the passion and insight only you can bring.
Trust is the currency we exchange; money proves we value each other’s work.
Change the Status Quo
At a certain point in life, you realize, “Enough is enough.” People who don’t care about making a difference, adding or creating value, or improving their skill and competence drain your time and energy.
I know it’s that way for me, and I think you feel it in your bones, too.
When you’re not at your best, or your attitude isn’t good, it brings everybody down. When other people and circumstances add complexity and difficulty in pursuing your vision, it brings you down.
We can keep slogging along with an “It will get better mindset,” or we can make a change. I vote for change.
If you’re willing to make a change, you must ask yourself: Who will I choose to align myself with, and what must I change to pursue God’s calling to the marketplace in the future?

Six Guidelines for Achieving Greatness
You will find these guidelines helpful. Think of them like a mantra.
I will do less of what I am good at (or good enough at) and focus on doing more of what I am great at.*
I will surround myself with people who care as passionately as I do about the difference we can make when we all work together in the areas of our greatest strengths.
I will work with people who add value, create wealth, and ensure prosperity for themselves and others.
I will pursue opportunities that reward my expertise. I am in business to glorify God, create value for my clients, generate wealth, and create an impact for ideas I care about.
I will choose to collaborate with people who are risk-takers, who have an abundance mentality, and who are not afraid to fail.
I will work with people whose vision for the future exceeds their ability to accomplish it independently.
My encouragement to you:
Make the hard decisions now about what you need to change so you don’t regret not making them later.
*Focus is the ruthless elimination of distraction.
